Basic Info
Tikal is a wine with top quality lineage. Its philosophy is based on perfection, the constant search for the very essence of wine reached by choosing each terroir in order to find the most authentic expression of its varietal. In every moment of the wine-making process, we tend to each and every detail. Ernesto Catena is a young Argentine winemaker, but mostly a createur du vine. He is the son of prestigious winemaker Nicolas Catena Zapata. Since his childhood in Argentina and during his later life of tireless travel to places like New York, Berkeley, Cambridge, Milan and London, he has developed a great love for the place where he was born, Mendoza, and for the vineyards he explored as a child, when he was passionately learning the alchemy and art of making a great wine. Tikal has the drive, zest, extravagance and strength characteristic of all young wines. It is restless and vivacious, with hints of a wine from the "new world." The care in making this wine begins at the vineyards, all of which are in high mountain zones, in the first winemaking region of Mendoza. Choice rows and parcels of the selected acres are cultivated using the best production methods, such as a selective-leaf- thinning system, to obtain the greatest yield. We use state-of-the-art technology, and our wines are aged in small barrels made of new French and American oak. Even our sales method is highly personal; we keep a careful watch over Tikal until it reaches the hands of those who know how to truly appreciate it.
