There have been grapes farmed on Vine Hill Ranch since 1884, and the independent growers who planted this piece of the Oakville Grade documented their annual plantings of grapevines, plums, pears and other crops in hand-scribed reports, which we honor in the style of our label! Following the footsteps of those pioneering families, our maternal grandfather, Bruce Kelham, purchased the land in 1959. He was a dedicated preservationist who moved to Napa to cultivate wine grapes after playing a role in establishing the Point Reyes National Seashore. We are proud to be part of a long line of independent growers who have farmed this land over the past century. Bob and Alex Phillips began cultivating fine wine grapes here in 1959 and, with the founding of Phillips Family Farming, Vine Hill Ranch continues to produce exceptional fruit for a collection of premier Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon vintners, including both Bond and Harlan. VHR Cabernet Sauvignon is the culmination of our evolution from grape growing to winemaking. Years of traversing vineyard rows and caring for each of Vine Hill Ranch’s seven blocks have imbued a deep understanding of our vineyard’s unique characteristics. We are also extremely proud to have the dynamic, and incredible duo of vineyard manager Michael Wolf and winemaker Francoise Peschon with us at Vine Hill Ranch!
