Valturio is a young but certainly established winery located high in the hills of NW Marche. Bordered to the North by Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany to the West and Umbria to the South. The vineyards are located around 1,800 feet and planted at a gradient of 40˚. Valturio was founded by Adriano Galli and Isabella Santarelli in 2002 with aim of restoring the production of high quality wine to Montefeltro.This follows a centuries-old tradition that dates from the times of the Dukes of Montefeltro to the beginning of the last century. The estate is named Valturio as a tribute to Roberto Valturio, the son of Cicco de’Valturii who left his native town of Macerata Feltria in 1396 and moved to Rimini. Roberto was an emblematic man of his time, whose culture ranged from literature to science and technology. In just the second vintage (2007), Valturio received the prestigious Tre Bichieri from Gambero Rosso. Since then the ‘Valturio’ wine has won three consecutive years of this coveted award!
