Sans Liege

Press

  • “Made by Curt Schalchlin, these are all impressive wines that don’t hold back on flavor or richness, yet always stay beautifully drinkable and fresh. Across the board, the 2010s are more tannic and firm than some past releases and most warrant another 6-12 months or so of bottle age.” (Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate)
  • "Impressively made as well as realistically priced wines have emerged from Sans Liege over recent vintages, and all of the above offerings merit attention." (Wine Advocate)

Basic Info

Sans Liege is my relentless search for independence. After many years learning from and working with good friends who have since made their mark as winemakers, I decided it was time to take what I’d gathered with them, and to go my own way. Equally aligned with the freedoms of the New World and the heritage of the Rhone Valley, I am careful not to hold too closely to either. Instead I trust an intuition of the microcosms of each vine and vintage to guide my work in the cellar. Sans Liege sources fruit from Central Coast vineyards that have captured my heart. They speak for me and I for them; the only partners now on this path I tread. CURT SCHALCHLIN Winemaker, Sans Liege Wines & Groundwork Wines
