Poliziano

Press

  • "These are among the finest wines I can remember tasting from Poliziano, one of Montepulciano's reference-point producers." (Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate, Issue #191)
  • "The exceptions to the rule are the wines of Poliziano. Frederico Carletti of Poliziano is a magician with Sangiovese in his region. His wines are rich, powerful, yet balanced and elegant." (James Sucking, Wine Spectator)

Basic Info

The Poliziano estate was formed in 1961 from an original nucleus of 22 hectares, bought by Federico Carletti's father, and has now reached 262 hectares, of which 125 are cultivated with DOC and DOCG vineyards. As soon as Federico had taken his degree in agriculture, he spent a few years in northern Italy where he gained experience in farm management and in 1980 he entered the Poliziano estate. These were years of transformation, the market was rapidly changing and at last quality became the dominating factor in winemaking rather than quantity. It was a time of challenge which he met with great enthusiasm and the desire to establish a new outlook in production for the estate. He is an agronomist, but he prefers to think of himself as a farmer because he is convinced that great wines originate in the vineyard.
