Basic Info

Owen Roe Winery is the brainchild of winemaker David O'Reilly. David originally founded Sineann with Peter Rosback and together they built the winery from a few barrels in a tiny shed to the quirky cult winery it has become. David left in 1999 to give his full attention to Owen Roe, thus unleashing two mad-scientist-winemakers upon an unsuspecting world. If there is such a thing as the luck of the Irish, winemaker David O'Reilly has found a pot of gold underneath his Willamette Valley, Oregon rainbow. Everything O'Reilly touches has to be the best. It is almost an obsession with him. From huge, gorgeous wines to hand-numbered bottles and objects of art gracing his labels, O'Reilly spends the money for a total package. "Everything we do is meticulous," said O'Reilly, one of 12 children born in Belfast, Ireland. "What we do is totally uncompromising. It is a lifestyle that includes hard work, but the product is thoroughly rewarding." Everything O'Reilly does is also thoroughly Irish, giving a nod to his former homeland. Owen Roe was named for Owen Roe O'Neil, a great Irish patriot, ancestor of David O’Reilly, and inspiration behind the famous Sinister Hand label.
