La Sirena

Press

  • "I always enjoy tasting the wines Heidi Barrett makes under her La Sirena label. At their best, the wines have a whimsical, child-like exuberance that is impossible to miss." (Wine Advocate)
  • "Top 100 Most Influential U.S. Winemakers. Say the words 'cult wine' and you mean Hiedi Barrett. It was at Dalle Valle where she gained prominence by creating powerful, elegant Cabernets, including the famous 'Maya' cult wine, a proprietary Cabernet blend that received two perfect 100-point scores from Robert Parker. She was hired to make wine for Screaming Eagle in 1992 and again received two perfect 100-point scores not to mention a mass of adoring fans. At the Napa Valley Wine Action, a 6-liter bottle 1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet set a world record for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of wine at $500,000. Currently she makes her own wine under the La Sirena label and after all the fuss, she still makes damn fine wine." (Into Wine)

Basic Info

Possibly the most famous California cult winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett is a private person who has generally avoided seeking attention, leaving her wines to create their own aura. Most famed for making collectible Cabernet Screaming Eagle, Barrett has also made such Napa legends as Dalla Valle Vineyards' Maya (which received two 100-point scores from Robert Parker), Showket Vineyards' Super Tuscan blend Asante Sana; Vineyard 29, Grace Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, and Revana Family Vineyards’ Cabernet Sauvignon. At $500,000, a 6-liter bottle of her 1992 Screaming Eagle set a world record at the 2000 Napa Valley Wine Auction for the highest price ever paid for a single bottle of wine. A vertical offering went for $650,000 at the 2001 auction. In making legendary wines, she herself has become a legend.
