Aia Vecchia

Press

  • “Started in 1995, Aia Vecchia counts 42 hectares of vines between properties in Bolgheri and southern Maremma (Magliano in Toscana and Orbetello). At the Bolgheri property, long panoramas of manicured vineyard cut deep into the Mediterranean shrubs that blanket the hillsides. The focus is primarily international varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, but smaller parcels are planted to Vermentino and Sangiovese. Over the past year, the Pellegrino family has invested in cryo-maceration technology for their white wines. Elia, 24, recently joined uncle Filippo and father Alessandro at the winery after his professional soccer career was cut short by injury.” (Monica Larner)
  • "Very impressive. A very serious new wine of Bolgheri." (Wine Spectator)

Basic Info

Aia Vecchia is deep in the Tuscan countryside between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, an area where a particularly favorable microclimate and ideally suited soils make possible the production of very high quality wines known as Bolgheri DOC. Some of Italy's best known producers have a long and successful wine producing history here. Aia Vecchia has 118 acres of vineyards split between two estates: "Podere Aia Vecchia" located on the plains near the Mediterranean coast, and "Casa Vecchia" situated high in the hills facing the sea, amont the most famous historical vineyards of Bolgheri. The owners, the Pellegrini family, have been grape growers in the area for several generations.
