Hourglass cabfranc blueline

Cabernet Franc, Blueline Vineyard 2012

Hourglass Estate

Flinty minerality and notes of Earl Gray tea precede a long finish with nuances of tangy ponzu sauce and Asian spice. The tensional balance of richness and vibrancy is something we strive for in all our wines, and is ever-present here. The 2012 Franc is the first vintage in which we added Cabernet Sauvignon for a broader mouth-feel and enhanced mid-palate texture, and Petit Verdot for a boost to the structure, color density, and richness. Beautifully balanced and nuanced in every facet, this vintage delivers an exotic wine which promises to evolve well into the future.

Reviews

  • "94 points. Dark red cherries, smoke, menthol, licorice and graphite burst from the glass in the 2012 Cabernet Franc Blueline. A wine of energy and pure tension, the Cabernet Franc is another sumptuous, radiant wine full of personality. The 2012 will be ready to provide maximum pleasure pretty much upon release." (vinous)
  • "93 points. The complex, gorgeous 2012 Cabernet Franc Blue Line is composed of 83% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot. This comes from 22-year-old vines planted in rocky, gravelly soil. A spectacular effort, it boasts deep forest floor, black raspberry, blueberry and wet gravelly aromas and flavors. Dense, full-bodied, opulent and fleshy, but not heavy, this killer Cabernet Franc should be consumed over the next decade." (Wine Advocate)
