Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsbille 2013

Favia Erickson Winegrowers

Our inaugural offering of Cabernet Sauvignon from our ‘hood in the southeast corner of Napa Valley, the 2013 Coombsville exhibits the trademark characteristics that this historic and newly ascendant appellation has to offer. Its gravelly soils and proximity to San Pablo Bay combine to lend the wines an old-world, savory quality, delivered at an impressive level of concentration and depth. This vintage is incredibly dark, with a deep purple hue and a generous, multifaceted aromatic expression. Blackberry, blueberry, and black currant dance with savory notes such as rosemary, black tea, olive and bresaola. Its many flavors are delivered on a rock solid framework, with rich but refined tannins and a cool impression, leather, pencil shavings, black tea, and smoke. This wine promises to be incredibly long-lived.

Reviews

  • "96 points. Graphite, sage, lavender, smoke and blackberry jam are some of the signatures that emerge from 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville, a wine built on energy, brightness and tension. Hints of rose petal, mint, sweet spice and dark red cherry jam meld into the intensely mineral, salivating finish. The 2013 needs time to soften, but it is striking. Drinking window: 2020 - 2033." • "94+ points. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from the southeastern Napa AVA of Coombsville has a similar saturated ruby/purple color. It’s slightly more chunky with muscular blackberry and blueberry fruit, full body and a very structured, reserved, backward personality. This is a beauty, slightly bigger and more tannic than the other Favia offerings. Drink it over the next 25 years." (Robert Parker)
