Pinot Noir, Johan Vineyard 2015

Day Wines

An utterly fantastic Pinot Noir that keeps conjuring one thought: it tastes like nature. A wholesome wine with a great deal of purity in its aromas, flavors and textures. Light but vibrant ruby color. On the nose, expresses notes that recall tart cranberry and sweet strawberry in harmony, as well as rosehips and hibiscus. Sharp acidity and a pronounced mineral note on the finish. Zingy.

Reviews

  • "94 points. I have tasted some truly superb examples of pinot noir from the Johan Vineyard down in the cooler Van Duzer Corridor, and Brianne Day’s 2015 example is another truly exceptional bottle in the making... a very classy aromatic constellation of black cherries, red plums, raw cocoa, beautifully sweet herbal tones, a superb base of soil, a touch of stems and a discreet base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a nice reserve of sappy fruit at the core, excellent soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a long, focused and tangy finish. This has absolutely superb potential..." (A View From the Cellar)
  • "92 points. Brilliant red. Energetic, spice-accented red berry and cherry scents are complemented by subtle vanilla, floral and smoky mineral notes. Silky and appealingly sweet, offering concentrated raspberry, cherry compote and rose pastille flavors that become more lively with aeration. Supple tannins sneak in slowly on a long, floral-tinged finish that hangs on with strong tenacity." (vinous)
