"The Derivative" 2015

Carlisle Winery

Pale straw-yellow in color. Quinine, grapefruit, quince, and citrus pith all stand out in the engaging aromas. Medium bodied, yellow fruits mingle with a slight herbaceous note reminding me of newly baled hay. Plenty of verve and minerality in the refreshing finish. Fruitier (but not riper) than the ’14. There is precious little Derivative in 2016 so if you are a fan of this wine, this is your opportunity to stock up. Drink from release through 2024

Reviews

  • "94 points. This is yet another stellar vintage of this unique blend, a mix of Muscadelle, Sémillon, Colombard and Palomino. Floral as a garden brimming in gardenia, it's dry and gravelly, with distinct flavors of quince and melon. Light on its feet, it's well worth seeking." (Wine Enthusiast)
  • "91 points. The 2015 Derivate is a gorgeous white field blend of Sémillon, Muscadelle, Colombard and Palomino. White and green orchard fruit, flowers and stony notes give the wine its characteristic brightness and lift. Vineyard sources are Monte Rosso, Pagani Ranch and Mancini Ranch. The 2015 is the last vintage to incorporate Sémillon from Monte Rosso. Going forward, Carlisle will be sourcing Sémillon from Rossi Ranch." (vinous)
