Reviews

  • "97 points. The 2014 'Royal City' is a profound wine from Charles Smith and amongst the best of its kind in Washington State. This is a simply incredible Syrah which begins with simply intoxicating aromatics of red currants, red fruits, green peppercorn, anise, dill, rose petals with citrus zest and wet stones adding additional complexity. The palate is round and velvety, yet energetic as it demonstrates remarkable balance and focus. Fantastic flavors of red cherries, black raspberries, blood orange, pepper, wet rocks, ash and raw meat expand beautifully on the palate. The impressive range of flavor and purity this offers is hard to match in Washington. Simply put, this is a sensational effort by talented winemaker Charles Smith, and will rival the best Syrah in the world. (Best 2018-2030)." (International Wine Report)
  • "95 points. Cellar Selection. Coming from the Royal Slope, which no doubt will deservedly have its own appellation before long, enchanting aromas of ground rock, green olive, green stem, crushed flower and dark fruit lead to a panoply of fruit and savory flavors that shake the senses to the core, with smoked meat notes persisting on the long finish. It's an intense experience but maintains a sense of balance that is heart stopping. Drink from 2020-2027." (Wine Enthusiast)
