Carlisle zinfandel

Zinfandel, Montafi Ranch 2015

Carlisle Winery

Medium garnet-ruby. True to the vintage (at least for Zinfandel), very red-fruited with aromas of red cherry, currant, and the trademark whiff of eucalyptus (although not as prominent as some previous vintages). The wine enters fresh and snappy with flavors of red currants, cherries, and a touch of pomegranate. Youthful tannins emerge in the fruit-filled finish, indicating that this should age well. Enjoy from release through 2027.

Reviews

  • "93 points. Brawny and expansive in dusty minerality, this dry wine is velvety thick and floral in violet aromas. Blackberry, cherry and an herbal undercurrent of menthol work together seamlessly to provide complexity and bold swathes of persistent flavor." (Wine Enthusiast)
  • "90-92 points. Another big boy (15.4%) is the 2015 Zinfandel Montafi Ranch, which is 87% Zinfandel and 13% mixed black varieties. Officer has always done a great job with this Zinfandel, and this is another beauty. The vintage seems to have produced this sort of fleshy, flamboyant and dramatic Zinfandel with loads of forward fruit, plenty of blackberry, raspberry and cherry notes as well as some licorice, charcoal and earth. It is delicious already, even though it’s a barrel sample. Drink it over the next 5-7 years." (Wine Advocate)
