Carlisle papera

Zinfandel, Papera Ranch 2014

Carlisle Winery

A nuanced, perfumed nose of confit fruits, sandalwood and rose petal. Bright, sleek and refined on the palate, reflecting both the vineyard’s prized position on the eastern edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa (nature’s “air conditioner” for the Piner/Olivet area) and the precision derived from the high percentage of Zinfandel in this post-prohibition planting – a clean expression of the variety. Plum preserves and baking spices mingle on the palate, with nutmeg notes leading the charge on the finish. Stunning. Drink 2019 – 2030.

Reviews

  • "94 points. Black cherry, violet, lavender, blueberry and spice notes give the 2014 Zinfandel Papera Ranch much of its distinctive cool, bracing personality. The acids are bright, but not at all intrusive. This is another striking Zinfandel from Carlisle. There is wonderful depth and pliancy here." (vinous)
  • "93 points. Well-knit and precise, with a core of lively acidity and tannins to balance the ripe fruit, showing notes of blackberry, dark fruitcake spices, sandalwood and pepper. Drink now through 2028. 853 cases made." (Wine Spectator)
