Carlisle zinfandel

Zinfandel, Carlisle Vineyard 2014

Carlisle Winery

A classic “Carlisle nose” of mint tea, iron, and crushed dark berries, including mulberry which has always been a hallmark of this vineyard. The palate is rich, expansive and savory. The fresh berry notes mirror those on the nose, bringing black raspberry, boysenberry and Mirabelle plum to the party. The finish is accented with Asian spices and a cocoa powder texture that is ultimately refreshed by the natural acidity of the wine. Another stunner from this fine old lady. Drink 2019 – 2030.

Reviews

  • "95 points. The 2014 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard is one of the most complex and multidimensional wines in this range. This field blend includes a whopping 40 different varieties, which no doubt adds to the wine's complexity and layered feel. Smooth, silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal." (vinous)
  • "94 points. Highly Recommended! Here's proof that Zinfandel can be ripe and well-structured and retain lively acidity. Aromas of fresh violet, eucalyptus and huckleberry open to complex and focused flavors of raspberry, savory bramble and Asian five-spice powder. Drink now through 2028. 681 cases made."
