Mestizaje blanc

Blanco, "Mestizaje" 2015

Bodega Mustiguillo

The Viognier is immediately apparent on the nose with apricot, tropical fruit and honey while underlying notes of white peach, scented flowers and citrus hints creep in from the Merseguera. The tightwire balance between the fleshy Viognier/Malvasia and taut Merseguera continue with a fresh, fruity and floral attack and an unctuous mid palate that is kept in check by bracing acidity. Truly one of a kind, Mestizaje shows its unique personality is this pleasant, crispy, imminently friendly wine.

Reviews

  • "88 points. The entry-level white 2015 Mestizaje Blanco is a blend of dry-farmed, organic Merseguera regrafted on Bobal vines and some 18% young Viognier, and 8% each Malvasía and Macabeo. This white carries no appellation, although it's produced in the Valencia region. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and was kept in contact with the fine lees until it was bottled some five months after the harvest. The nose is quite discreet but balanced, with some notes of fennel and white fruit. The palate is fresh, dry, with a faint bitterness in the finish, slightly warmer and riper than the Finca Calvestra. Pleasant. 54,000 bottles." (Robert Parker)
