Owenroe chardonnay

Chardonnay, DuBrul 2014

Owen Roe

Northwest winemaker David O’Reilly’s devotion to the Yakima Valley continues to show with this reserve-style Chardonnay farmed in the Rattlesnake Hills by the Shiels family of Côte Bonneville fame. The barrel program of French oak (30% new) generates a luxurious nose of fresh caramel and ghee with pretty notes of white peach, pear, saffron and white pepper. Its mouth feel is bright and complex with flavors of white pear, pear and apple butter as racy acidity runs through. The finish brings a light touch of butterscotch and lemon zest. Suggested pairings include pan-fried Maryland-style crab cakes or seared scallops with corn salad.

Reviews

  • "91 points. Bright and generous, open-textured and appealing, with pear and citrus flavors. Has presence and restraint, finishing with complexity and a hint of wet stone. Drink now through 2021. 315 cases made." (Wine Spectator)
  • "90 points. Pale bronze-yellow color. White fruits, mirabelle and resiny oak on the nose, plus some tropical suggestions. Ripe, silky-sweet flavors of yellow apple, pear and white peach are enlivened by a wet stone quality that may come from the basalt soil component of the blend. The dusty, tactile finish features a refreshing note of green apple." (vinous)
