Melville chardonnay vernas

Estate Chardonnay, "Verna's" 2013

Melville

Bright gold in color, aromatics of marcona almonds, lemon curd, and orange blossom honey spring from the glass. Secondary notes of baked filo dough, green papaya, and toasted macadamias also drift in the background. Oily and tender on the palate, with a streak of vibrant acidity that maintains the wine’s focus and drive.

Reviews

  • "92 points. The last vintage that the Melvilles are pulling from this Los Alamos Valley vineyard, this wine shows a complex nose of lemon candy, dill and fresh oregano. There is plenty of tension and grip on the palate, thanks to the lime-pith flavors, but a show of white flowers like tuberose keeps it properly ripe." (Wine Enthusiast)
  • "90 points. The 2013 Chardonnay Estate Verna's Vineyard is another outstanding release of this cuvee that represents a terrific value. Giving up classic apple tart, melon, spice and a touch of honey, it's medium to full-bodied, rounded and nicely textured, with lots to like. Barrel fermented and aged six months in neutral oak, drink it over the coming 2-3 years." (Robert Parker)
