Birichino pn lilo

Pinot Noir, Lilo Vineyard 2013

Birichino

Bordered by Douglas Firs and Coastal Redwoods, its powerful darker, blacker quality of fruit has a distinctly vivid, exotic sandalwood aromatic intensity, finely wrought structure, and natural freshness that carry it with nerve and grace. While we pick earlier, and prefer a minimally interventionist winemaking approach employing native fermentations, minimal punchdowns, short macerations, and elevage in neutral wood, our label features a 16th century woodcut of a surfing sorcerer performing distinctly Dark Arts before a strikingly familiar coastline. After a little more than a year in old French barrels anddemi-muids, we bottled, unfiltered, in January of 2014.

Reviews

  • "92 points. Deep, bright red. Pungent aromas of raspberry, cherry skin, candied rose and smoky minerals. Sharply focused cherry and red berry preserve flavors are brightened by a smoky mineral nuance, picking up a floral pastille quality with air. More lithe and nervy than the relatively brooding Saint Georges bottling. The wine's sappy, energetic finish repeats the red berry note and lingers with strong spicy tenacity." (vinous)
