Cabernet Sauvignon, Melanson Vineyard 2012

Pulido~Walker

Slow to come up at first in the fermenter, the tannins gradually emerged with unmistakable quality. No more or less present than in previous vintages, the tannins in the 2012 are simply outstanding. All the punch and power is there, with no sense that it will take time to smooth out. e wine is round, full, rich and accessible—more complete than it has ever been at release. With flavors of ink-black fruit and white flower aromatics, this exemplary vintage is drinking beautifully now and will only become more astonishing with age.

Reviews

  • "94+ points. The dense purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Clone 7) possesses more weight, structure and fruit richness than the 2011 as well as more tannin. It seems both less evolved and less dramatic than most 2012s. The wine is loaded with pure blackberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with licorice, camphor and forest floor. Full-bodied and opulent with some tannin that kicks in in the back, it will benefit from several years of cellaring, and should drink well for two decades." (Wine Advocate)
