Dumol chardonnay isobel

Chardonnay, "Isobel" 2013

DuMOL

Great cool climate intensity, bright, sharp aromas, grapefruit, white nectarine, mixed botanicals, sea spray and minerals. Subtle floral/blossom note and faint match stick complexity. Vibrant fruit entry – green apple, citrus oil then chamomile and lemongrass. Clean river-pebble edge, livewire intensity. Mid-palate relaxes and layered honeyed texture develops. Lots of lemons and limes on the penetrating saline finish. Decant for an hour and drink between 2015 and 2021.

Reviews

  • "94+ points. Straw-colored in the glass. Grand scale aromatic complexity: green herbs, ginger, hay and fennel. Then the fruit takes holds, melon, Gravenstein apple, lime zest and honeysuckle. Piercing vibrant palate, extremely saline and savory. Lanolin, almondy texture builds. Deeply focused clarity and power. Limes, minerals, some freshly baked bread notes. Long vein of taut acidity and sense of building power to finish. Drink between 2016 and 2022." (Wine Advocate)
  • "93 points. The 2013 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard is another soft, supple Chardonnay from DuMol. A wine of real pedigree, the Isobel graces the palate with exquisite finesse. Yellow orchard fruit, slate, smoke, apricot pit and spice notes are all laced together. The 2013 is delicate and nuanced from start to finish, although my sense is that the wine has not fully recovered from bottling, as the vineyard signatures aren't fully expressive yet. The classic Heintz texture comes through nicely, though." (vinous)
