Vietti barolo castiglione

Barolo, "Ravera" 2012

Vietti

Intense garnet red color. Very classic and traditional with a robust structure and intense tannins. Bouquet still closed right now with slight hints of yeast. It opens slowly in the glass with hints of spice and menthol. In the final the powerful structure and concentration soften the tannins potential.

  • "97 points. Top 100 Wines of 2016, #5. This gorgeous Barolo comes from the Ravera cru in Novello, which is situated on a south-west facing hill and composed of calcareous-clay soils. The 2012 is a simply dazzling effort from Vietti, as it instantly impresses with its remarkable purity and sheer elegant personality. As the wine slowly opens, it delivers beautiful aromas of fresh red berries, floral and minerals along with exotic spices and hints of eucalyptus. On the palate Ravera continues to be a thing of beauty, displaying excellent overall structure, balance and remarkable focus as it heads into the refined finish. This is a beautiful age-worthy Barolo, which ultimately has the potential to be the most compelling wine from Vietti in this vintage, however it will require some serious patience before it will be at its best. (Best 2021-2036)." (International Wine Report)
  • "96 points. The 2012 Barolo Ravera is once again a star. Finely cut and chiseled throughout, the 2012 boasts striking precision and nuance. Rose petal, chalk, white pepper, cranberry and pomegranate burst forward in a brilliant, exceptionally polished Barolo built on pure, sculpted elegance. Over the last few years Vietti has done a tremendous job in taming the intense Ravera tannins while preserving all of the focus that makes the wines from this site so alluring. The Ravera has been fabulous on the two occassions I have tasted it so far." (vinous)
