Poggioanima gabriel

Pecorino, "Gabriel" 2014

Poggio Anima

Crystallized lime peel, nectarine and dry herbs on the nose. Juicy and lively with a nice density conveying a dusty citrus zest character and an impression of orchard fruits. Pecorino is a grape of high importance to quality white wines of Abruzzo and Marche though it may not be as well known as Trebbiano or Verdicchio. Pecorino is a very old grape but was only recently rediscovered and used for monovarietal wines. Named for the ancient tradition of herding sheep (Pecora is the Italian word for sheep), the Pecorino grape is one of the first to ripen and sheep are attracted to the fruit. Like so many grapes that have teetered on the precipice of extinction, Pecorino is a somewhat stingy yielder and over time many growers abandoned it in favor of more prolific vines like Trebbiano.
