Vietti rocche

Barolo, "Rocche di Castiglione" 2011

Vietti

Ruby red in color. Complex and full-bodied with intense aromas of dried roses, licorice, spice and truffles. Elegant with strong, yet balanced and silky tannins; long and persistent finish. “The 2011 Vintage marks the 50th Anniversary of producing a single-vineyard bottling of Barolo from the prestigious Rocche di Castiglione cru. Our forefather, Alfredo Currado, produced the first vineyard-designated wine in Barolo half a century ago with the 1961 vintage. It was a risky gamble, but today single-vineyard wines from our region continue to proliferate. Alfredo’s foresight substantially changed how winemakers interpret the special terroir of their vineyards”. (Famiglia Vietti)

Reviews

  • "95 points. A wonderfully balanced and refined Barolo with firm tannins and delicious berry, plum and light chocolate character. Better in 2018 but so gorgeous already." (James Suckling)
  • "95 points. Vietti's 2011 Barolo Rocche is rich and sumptuous in this vintage, with gorgeous textural resonance. The classic Rocche signatures are present, but the 2011 has a bit more body than is often the case. Freshly cut flowers mint, sweet spices and rose petals form a hugely appeal fabric of flavors and textures. Voluptuous and racy in the glass yet with plenty of nuance and finesse, the 2011 Rocche captures the very best qualities of the year. All things considered, this is one of the more subtle wines of the year." (vinous)
