Pyren brokenquartz cab

Cabernet Sauvignon, "Broken Quartz" 2010

Pyren Vineyard

Bright crimson-purple. The bouquet is very fragrant and pure, but underlines the question posed by the low alcohol: will the flavors be ripe? Well, it's on the cusp, but has so many good things going for it that it must get the benefit of the doubt. It is beautifully detailed, pure and harmonious, finishing with those dusty/earthy tannins unique to Cabernet.

Reviews

  • "88+ points. Deep ruby. Classic cabernet aromas of red- and blackcurrant, cherry, cured tobacco and dried flowers, plus a touch of menthol. Pliant bitter cherry and cassis flavors are sweetened by vanillin oak and lifted by tangy acidity. The menthol note returns on the finish, which is youthfully taut and focused. This deserves at least another year or so of patience." (International Wine Cellar)
  • "88 points. Distinctly minty, balancing tightly focused cherry and herb flavors on a medium-bodied frame and letting them dance easily through the finish. Drink now through 2015. 850 cases made." (Wine Spectator)
