Pieri is part of the Red Heads Studio's stable of boutique Wineries. Andrew Pieri (aka Tony Soprano) and his father (who is on the label) are the two guys behind the brand. Their first wine, the 2005 Azzardo (gambler) is an Amerone style wine made exclusively from McLaren Vale Shiraz. This heady brew was made from grapes that were dried on racks for two weeks thus concentrating the flavors. Andrew is the official Barrel Monkey at Red Heads Studios.
| 2006 | "Azzardo" Shiraz Amarone, McLaren Vale | | |   | 91 Points Stephen Tanzer | “Powerfully scented bouquet combines black raspberry, cherry, mocha and Asian spices. Sappy, finely etched red and dark berry flavors are enlivened by tangy minerality and an exotic orange zest quality. Gains weight with air, finishing with excellent thrust and persistence. This is really showing its fruit today.” | | 2008 | "Occasionee" Shiraz Ripasso, McLaren Vale | | |   | 90 Points Stephen Tanzer | “Bright ruby. Complex scents of blackberry preserves, smoky herbs and dried violet, with a peppery overtone. Juicy, incisive dark berry flavors are complicated by a sexy spicecake note and framed by silky tannins. This fresh wine is drinking very well now, and finishes with strong spicy bite and lingering sweetness.” |
